(Worthy News) – A senior Israeli official said Saturday that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in the opening strike of Operation Roaring Lion, potentially ending the 86-year-old cleric’s 36-year rule over the Islamic Republic.
According to the official, Khamenei’s body was found beneath rubble after Israeli airstrikes destroyed the Tehran compound where he had reportedly been staying. Documentation of the body was said to have been shown to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a televised address earlier Saturday, Netanyahu stopped short of full confirmation but said the compound had been destroyed and that “it is possible the tyrant is no longer with us,” later adding there were “growing indications” Khamenei had been killed.
No independent confirmation
Despite the dramatic claims, there has been no official confirmation from Iranian, American, or independent sources as of Saturday evening.
Iranian officials had earlier indicated they would release a recording from Khamenei following the strike, while preliminary Israeli assessments initially suggested he may have been wounded.
U.S. President Donald Trump told NBC News he believes the reports of Khamenei’s death are accurate.
“We feel that that is a correct story,” Trump said in a phone interview.
Largest Israeli Air Force strike
The reported killing came as Israel launched what it described as the largest strike formation in Israeli Air Force history.
According to the Israeli military, the opening wave of Operation Roaring Lion represented the largest strike formation in Israeli Air Force history, involving roughly 200 fighter jets that struck about 500 targets across Iran in a highly coordinated campaign. The operation focused heavily on degrading Iran’s strategic military capabilities, particularly its surface-to-surface missile launchers and advanced air defense networks in western and central regions of the country. Israeli officials said the synchronized assault, which employed hundreds of precision munitions, was designed to cripple key offensive infrastructure and expand Israeli air superiority over Iranian airspace.
Israeli officials said the sweeping assault was based on high-quality intelligence and involved synchronized operations across western and central Iran.
Netanyahu framed the operation in strategic and political terms, saying, “Our joint operation will create the conditions for the brave Iranian people to take their fate into their own hands.”
Trump calls for Iranian uprising
President Trump confirmed that the United States participated in major combat operations alongside Israel and issued a direct appeal to the Iranian people.
“When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations,” Trump said in a video message.
Smoke was reported rising across Tehran and other locations following the strikes, which Iranian media said hit multiple sites nationwide.
Leadership targeted
Israeli officials said the strikes were designed to decapitate the upper echelon of Iran’s ruling structure, specifically targeting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, President Masoud Pezeshkian, and a number of senior military and regime commanders. The coordinated effort appears aimed at disrupting both political authority and military command-and-control at the highest levels of the Islamic Republic. However, the full results of those precision strikes remain unclear, with independent confirmation still pending. If ultimately verified, the operation would mark a historic and potentially destabilizing turning point in the region’s power structure.
If verified, Khamenei’s death would mark the most consequential leadership decapitation in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution and could trigger significant instability inside the Islamic Republic and across the Middle East.
The situation remains fluid, with confirmation from Tehran expected to be decisive in the coming hours.
Possible Prophetic Significance
From a prophetic perspective, many observers point to Jeremiah’s prophecy concerning Elam — an ancient region located in what is now southwestern Iran — which describes a dramatic shaking of leadership followed by eventual restoration. The passage declares that the Lord would “break the bow of Elam,” scatter its power, and even “destroy the king and the princes,” yet it closes with a remarkable promise: “But in the latter days I will restore the fortunes of Elam.”
For those watching current developments, the pattern described by Jeremiah is both sobering and hopeful. The removal of entrenched rulers is not portrayed as the final chapter, but as a precursor to restoration.
At the same time, Iran today is widely reported to be home to one of the fastest-growing Christian revivals in the world, with the number of believers rising from roughly 100,000 in 1994 to estimates in the several millions today. Many believers therefore view any upheaval in Iran through this dual lens: a season of shaking that, in time, could help open the door to profound spiritual and national restoration for the Iranian people.
