(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump said Monday that the joint U.S.-Israel military campaign against Iran is “very far ahead of schedule,” declaring that the Islamic Republic’s military infrastructure has been largely destroyed and the conflict could soon come to an end.
Speaking in an interview with CBS News, Trump said Iran’s military capabilities have been severely degraded following more than a week of coordinated strikes under Operation Epic Fury and Israel’s Operation Roaring Lion.
“I think the war is very much complete, pretty much,” Trump said. “They have no navy, no communications, they’ve got no air force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones.”
Trump added that Iran’s military has been effectively dismantled. “If you look, they have nothing left. There’s nothing left in a military sense.”
According to the president, U.S. forces have struck more than 5,000 targets across Iran since the campaign began on Feb. 28, including drone factories, missile launch infrastructure, naval assets and command-and-control centers. Trump said Iran’s missile capabilities have been reduced to roughly 10 percent of their original capacity.
The president said the operation is moving significantly faster than anticipated, noting the campaign was originally expected to last four to six weeks.
“We are very far ahead of schedule,” Trump said. “It’s going to be ended soon.”
The war began when the United States and Israel launched a coordinated strike targeting Iran’s military leadership and strategic infrastructure. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during the initial phase of the operation.
His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was subsequently named the new supreme leader by Iran’s Assembly of Experts — a development Trump sharply criticized.
“I’m not happy about it,” Trump told the New York Post, previously calling Mojtaba Khamenei “unacceptable.” Trump also indicated he would support lethal action against the new leader if he refuses to comply with Washington’s demands to end Iran’s nuclear program.
According to current and former U.S. officials cited by the Wall Street Journal, Trump has told aides he would back the killing of Mojtaba Khamenei if the regime refuses to negotiate.
Trump has also said he wants a role in shaping Iran’s future leadership, writing last week that he hopes a “great and acceptable” leader will eventually replace the regime’s current leadership following what he described as Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”
Despite signaling that the war may soon conclude, Trump warned that the United States is prepared to escalate military action if Iran attempts to disrupt global energy supplies.
“I will not let a terrorist regime hold the world hostage and try to stop the global oil supply,” Trump said. “If Iran does something like that, they will be hit much, much harder.”
The president confirmed the U.S. Navy is prepared to escort commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route, amid concerns Iran could attempt to attack tanker traffic.
Trump also acknowledged that the conflict has pushed energy prices higher but said the increase has been smaller than expected.
Meanwhile, the president revealed he held a “very good call” Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying the two leaders discussed both the war in Iran and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump said Putin indicated he was willing to be helpful regarding Iran.
Earlier Monday at a fundraising event in Florida, Trump described the conflict as a necessary but temporary diversion from his domestic agenda.
“We took a little excursion because we felt we had to do that to get rid of some people,” Trump said, referring to Iran’s leadership.
He added that U.S. and Israeli forces are “crushing the enemy in an overwhelming display of technical skill and military force,” as Iran’s remaining missile and drone capabilities continue to collapse.
As the campaign enters its final phase, analysts say the destruction of Iran’s military infrastructure and leadership could dramatically reshape the balance of power across the Middle East.
