Netanyahu Advocates for ‘Libyan-Style’ Dismantling of Iran’s Nuclear Program

(Worthy News) – After meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington D.C., Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Tuesday of the dangers of a nuclear Iran as he prepared to depart for Israel. He emphasized that Iran “must not have nuclear weapons,” stating the goal could be achieved either diplomatically or militarily.

“We agree that Iran will not have nuclear weapons. This can be done by agreement, but only if this agreement is Libyan-style: They go in, blow up the installations, dismantle all of the equipment under American supervision and carried out by America—this would be good,” Netanyahu said.

“The second possibility—that will not be—is that they drag out the talks, and then there is the military option. Everyone understands this. We spoke about this at length,” he added.

Netanyahu discussed the Libyan model of dismantlement, as Trump mentioned while addressing reporters. In the Oval Office, following their Monday meeting, Trump stated: “We’re having direct talks with Iran, and they’ve started. … Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” emphasizing, “If it can be done diplomatically in a full way, the way it was done in Libya, I think that would be a good thing.”

Delegations from America and Iran are set to meet in Oman on Saturday to negotiate the nuclear deal. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, will lead their respective groups.

While Trump has described these as direct talks, the Iranians have specified they will initially be indirect. “This is an opportunity no less than it is a test. The ball is in America’s court,” stated the Iranian foreign minister, noting that successful discussions could lead to an in-person meeting.

If diplomacy fails, the United States, along with Israel, is ready to proceed with military action against the Iranian nuclear program as the Pentagon has deployed two carrier strike groups in the region along with the build-up of fighter jets, bombers, and support aircraft positioned near Iran. The U.S. also deployed additional air defense systems in Israel in the event a war broke out with Iran.
