Iran Enhances Underground Nuclear ‘Bunker’, Heightening Fears of Accelerated Weapons Development

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Confidential documents and analysis by weapons experts indicate that a significant expansion at Iran’s most fortified nuclear facility could soon triple its production of enriched uranium, the Washington Post reported.

Just days after Tehran formally notified the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of plans for a major upgrade, IAEA inspectors verified new construction activity at the Fordow enrichment plant, an underground facility constructed like a bunker inside a mountain in north-central Iran. This upgrade at Fordow raises particular concerns for the US and Israel due to its nearly impregnable subterranean location, making it almost invulnerable to airstrikes.

Experts indicate that the installation of approximately 1,400 additional centrifuges at Fordow could enable Iran to more than triple its production of weapons-grade uranium (WGU). This enhancement would advance Iran closer to “breakout” capability, the point at which it becomes practically impossible to prevent the country from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

According to a technical analysis shared with The Washington Post, the expansion at Fordow alone could enable Iran to amass enough nuclear fuel for several bombs each month.

U.S. intelligence officials report that Iran has accumulated roughly 300 pounds of highly enriched uranium, which could be refined into weapons-grade material for nuclear bombs within days or weeks.

Critics of the Iranian regime have been warning for years of Iran’s intentions of developing nuclear weapons, despite Iranian claims publicly that it is only for peaceful purposes. However, the credibility of these denials is eroded by the persistent calls from Iranian leaders for the “Death of Israel,” referring to it as the “Little Satan” and advocating for the destruction of the United States, labeling it as the “Great Satan.” Such rhetoric casts doubt on their declarations of pursuing a peaceful nuclear program.

In February 2024, Worthy News reported that Ali-Akbar Salehi, the former head of Iran’s nuclear agency, declared that Iran had “crossed all the thresholds of nuclear science and technology.”
