Hamas Says Deputy Head Killed in Lebanon

JERUSALEM/BEIRUT (Worthy News) – Hamas, condemned as a terrorist organization by Israel and most of its allies, says its deputy head, Saleh al-Arouri, has been killed in a blast in Beirut.

He is said to have been among four people killed in Tuesday’s explosion at Hamas’s office in Dahiyeh, one of the Lebanese capital’s southern suburbs.

Al-Arouri was the deputy head of Hamas’s political bureau and was known to be deeply involved in its military affairs.

Israel has pledged to eliminate Hamas after the group attacked the Jewish nation on October 7, killing at least 1,200 people, while many women were raped and otherwise mistreated. About 240 people were taken hostage, officials said.

Israeli officials declined to comment, but observers warned that the attack could mark a significant escalation in the Middle East conflict.

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has vowed to retaliate against any Israeli targeting of Palestinian officials in Lebanon.

Separately, the Israeli military says its troops have killed “dozens” of Palestinian fighters in Gaza, including Jabalia in the north and l Gaza City and coastal areas.

The intense fighting came as the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza claimed more than 22,000 people have been killed in the territory since Israel started its retaliatory campaign following the October 7 massacres.

Those figures have been complex to verify independently in a territory without press freedom.
