Golden Dome Missile Defense Test Declared ‘Full Mission Success,’ Hegseth Says

(Worthy News) – U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said the first milestone test of Golden Dome for America was a “full mission success,” calling it a major step toward President Donald Trump’s goal of building a next-generation shield to defend the American homeland.

Hegseth said he personally witnessed the test, which used directed-energy technology and the Dynamic Defense Autonomous Defeat system, known as DDAD, to identify, target, and eliminate multiple incoming threats.

“Cutting edge directed energy was harnessed,” Hegseth said, adding that the system “flawlessly and autonomously cued, targeted, and eliminated a multitude of incoming threats.”

According to Hegseth, the test was completed on schedule and “dynamically defeated every threat,” including drones and cruise missiles.

The successful demonstration marks an early milestone for Golden Dome for America, a major homeland-defense initiative promoted by Trump as part of a broader push to strengthen U.S. missile and aerial defense capabilities amid rising threats from hostile regimes and rapid advances in drone, hypersonic, and missile technology.

Hegseth credited America’s warfighters and emerging defense technologies for the achievement, saying he watched “elite warfighters integrate with next-generation technology to stop incoming drones and cruise missiles dead in their tracks.”

The secretary also praised cooperation between established defense contractors and newer technology firms, saying “traditional primes and emerging primes” are now “competing, collaborating, and winning” as they work to deliver on the president’s defense priorities.

Hegseth said the program was made possible by funding included in Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which he described as essential to building “the ultimate shield to protect America.”

The Golden Dome initiative has drawn comparisons to President Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative, the Cold War-era missile defense vision commonly known as SDI. Hegseth said Trump is now moving that vision closer to reality.

“President Trump is making President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative vision a reality,” Hegseth said. “With Golden Dome, the War Department will defend our homeland more powerfully than ever before.”

The test comes as U.S. defense planners increasingly focus on layered homeland protection against drones, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and other emerging threats. Supporters of the program argue that America can no longer rely solely on overseas deterrence, especially as adversaries develop weapons designed to strike U.S. territory, military bases, and critical infrastructure.

For the Trump administration, Golden Dome represents both a technological challenge and a strategic declaration: that American deterrence must be backed by the ability to defeat incoming attacks before they reach U.S. soil.

“Golden Dome is real, powerful, and on track,” Hegseth said.
