(Worthy News) – The U.S. has launched an investigation into the leak of top-secret Pentagon documents detailing Israel’s military preparations for a potential strike against Iran, U.S. officials announced Sunday.
The two leaked reports, prepared last week by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, provide U.S. interpretations of Israeli Air Force and Navy planning based on satellite imagery collected between October 15-16, along with other intelligence sources.
However, neither document reveals Israel’s potential targets, with one report noting that the agency’s analysts “cannot definitively predict the scale and scope of a strike on Iran.”
Nevertheless, the classified documents surfaced last week on the Telegram messaging app. They reveal that Israel has been preparing a response to a ballistic missile barrage launched by Iran on October 1, marking the second direct attack on Israel in six months.
The documents, dated October 15 and 16, reveal that the Israeli Air Force recently carried out exercises and “rehearsals” in preparation for a potential strike against Iran.
One of the documents indicates that, based on the analysis of satellite imagery, the Israeli Air Force conducted exercises involving air-launched ballistic missiles (ALBM). These drills included at least 16 “Golden Horizon” missiles and 40 “Rocks” or ISO2 missiles.
The documents also detail “covert drone activity” and extensive deployment drills, mentioning “secret UAV operations.” They further indicate that the Air Force conducted a “second large-scale deployment exercise” between October 15 and 16.
The report also notes that during this period, activity involving air-to-surface missiles (ASM) was detected at Ramat David and Ramon Air Force Bases.
The United States is investigating the leak of two highly classified intelligence documents detailing Israel’s preparations for a retaliatory strike on Iran, House Speaker Mike Johnson said Sunday.
In an interview with CNN, Johnson confirmed that an “investigation is underway,” adding, “I’ll get a briefing on that in a couple of hours.” He emphasized, “We are following it closely.”
A U.S. official stated that the investigation will focus on identifying who had access to the leaked documents. CNN reported that standard procedures require any such leak to trigger an immediate investigation by the FBI, in coordination with the Pentagon and intelligence agencies.
Israel’s Channel 12 news reported Saturday evening that an unnamed Israeli source expressed hope that a drone attack on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence in Caesarea earlier that day would provide Israel with “greater legitimacy for a broader range of targets” in Iran, if needed.
Netanyahu described the drone strike as an assassination attempt, attributing it to “agents of Iran.”
