Overall Palestinian Support for Hamas Increases to Double the Support for Fatah

(Worthy News) – As the Israel-Hamas war continues into its eighth month, a new poll shows not only that Palestinian support for Hamas has increased both inside the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank, but that this support is now double that of its less extreme rival, Fatah, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports.

Prior to the war triggered by its genocidal massacre of Israeli civilians on October 7, Hamas ruled the Gaza Strip while arch rival Fatah governs the Palestinian Authority in parts of the West Bank. Fatah remains deeply hostile to the Israelis but has worked to some extent with Jerusalem: it is considered by the West to be more moderate than the jihadist Hamas terror organization which is openly sworn to the destruction of the Jewish state.

Published on Wednesday, the poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) between May 26 and June 1 found that overall support for Hamas among Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank now stands at 40%, a six-point increase from a poll conducted three months ago. Only around 20% of Palestinians overall now support Fatah led by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the poll found.

In the West Bank, 41% of those polled said they support Hamas, compared to 35% three months ago. Fatah was found to have just 17% in support of it, compared to 12% three months ago. Meanwhile, support for Hamas among Gaza Palestinians is now at 38%, compared to 34% three months ago. Gazan support for Fatah is now at 24%, compared to 25% three months ago, the poll found.

Before October 7, overall Palestinian support for Hamas was at 22% while support for Fatah stood at 26%.
