(Worthy News) – Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, during his visit to the southern border on Monday, announced that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have killed or injured approximately half of the estimated 30,000 members of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
“We have already killed a quarter of the Hamas terrorists, at least, and the same number are wounded,” Galant stated. “Terrorists remain, and we are fighting against pockets of resistance … it will take months, not one day.”
Gallant emphasized that the objectives of the conflict are threefold: to dismantle Hamas, to secure the return of Israeli hostages, and to maintain the unity of the Israeli people. He acknowledged that that war would take time, stating, “We’re in a long war, but in the end, we will break Hamas.” He vowed to keep fighting in Gaza until Hamas is eliminated.
According to a report on Israel’s Ynet website on Monday, a senior security official stated that the IDF has successfully dismantled two out of the four Hamas battalions active in the Khan Yunis region. The report further detailed that Israeli troops have killed approximately 3,000 members from a total of 4,000 Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters in the combat operations conducted both above and below ground in Khan Yunis. The IDF is achieving considerable success in its efforts to dismantle the extensive network of tunnels beneath Khan Yunis, according to an IDF statement.
Sinwar, one of the key figures behind the Oct. 7 massacre, along with Mohammed Deif, the leader of Hamas’s military branch, is believed to be in hiding in the Khan Yunis area. Reports suggest that they have shielded themselves with numerous living Israeli hostages. Khan Yunis is considered a stronghold for Sinwar, where his family resides.
