JERUSALEM (Worthy News) – The Israeli Air Force carried out strikes on multiple Houthi targets in Yemen’s capital city of Sanaa on Thursday, coinciding with a live televised speech by Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi.
According to Sky News Arabia, the attacks targeted a presidential compound and a central Houthi military camp. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) later confirmed that its strikes were aimed at sites tied to Houthi governance and military infrastructure. Arab media outlets reported as many as 10 separate strikes in the city.
Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir oversaw the operations from military headquarters in Tel Aviv, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu followed developments via a secure “red phone” line.
The latest strikes followed the downing of two Houthi drones by Israeli forces earlier Thursday. On Sunday, Israel also struck Sanaa, targeting ballistic missile facilities and electrical infrastructure.
The Houthis have fired multiple ballistic missiles toward Israel in recent days, including launches last Friday and again on Wednesday. Since October 19, 2023, the Iranian-backed Yemeni group has conducted dozens of missile and drone attacks against Israel. Although Israel began counterstrikes in July 2024, none have halted the Houthis’ campaign. At the same time, no Houthi attack has resulted in Israeli fatalities since July 2024.
Israeli officials said Thursday’s operation was part of a broader air and naval campaign against Houthi assets in Yemen. “We are coordinating closely at the highest levels,” Netanyahu said after consultations with Katz, Zamir, and senior commanders at the IDF’s “Red Line” command center.
The latest escalation highlights the ongoing shadow war between Israel and Iran-backed proxies, with the Houthis continuing to play a disruptive role in the region.
