(Worthy News) – Sworn to the destruction of Israel, the Islamic regime in Iran and the Hezbollah Islamic terror group in Lebanon promised Tuesday they will “punish” Israel for Monday’s air strike on Tehran’s consulate in Syria which killed a top general from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and six other people, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports.
The strike has been attributed to Israel although the Israeli government has not confirmed or denied it.
Designated by the US as the world’s biggest sponsor of state terrorism, Iran supports the Hamas and Hezbollah Islamic terror groups which are fighting against Israel. As a major ally of the brutal Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad – another sworn enemy of Israel – Iran has a strong military and diplomatic presence in Syria.
In a report Tuesday, Iran’s state TV said the Iranian regime’s Supreme National Security Council had met on Monday to decide on a “required” response to the strike in Syria’s capital city of Damascus, TOI reports. Among those killed in the strike were Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi, who led the Quds force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Lebanon and Syria until 2016, and his deputy, Gen. Mohammad Hadi Hajriahimi. Five officers were also killed.
Blaming Israel for the strike in a website statement, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said: “The evil Zionist regime will be punished at the hands of our brave men. We will make them regret this crime and the other ones,” TOI reports.
In a separate statement, Hezbollah said Gen. Zahedi had helped to “develop and advance” their “work” in Lebanon, TOI reports. “This crime will certainly not pass without the enemy receiving punishment and revenge,” Hezbollah said.
