US Would Help Defend Saudi Arabia Against Iranian Attack, Report

by Karen Faulkner, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – The United States recently quietly indicated to Saudi Arabia that it would help to defend the Kingdom against an attack by Iran or its proxies, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg News.

The US assurances were reportedly given amid the recent exchanges of attacks between Israel and Iran and Israel’s wars against Iranian proxies Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

“The tacit offer, made in the past few weeks, has given Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other Gulf Arab leaders some comfort as they await Israel’s response to Iran’s Oct. 1 missile attack, said the people, asking not to be identified discussing sensitive issues,” Bloomberg reported, citing its sources. “Gulf states fear any escalation of the conflict could severely hurt their economic and security interests, the people said.”

According to an analysis by Axios, the US was worried Iran would hit Saudi oil fields if Israel had struck oil sites rather than military targets in its attack on Iran on Saturday.

“Israel’s strikes, by hitting military targets rather than industrial facilities, have — for now — prevented a wider war,” Axios noted in its October 27 report. “That has been a key goal of President Biden and Secretary of State Tony Blinken since the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel.

“Saudi Arabia doesn’t have defenses as extensive as Israel’s layered systems, making the desert kingdom more vulnerable,” Axios added. “We’re told the risk of Iran hitting Saudi oil fields would have arisen had Israel hit Iranian oil fields.”
