Trump: Iran Losing $500 Million Daily as Hormuz Pressure Mounts

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief

(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Iran is suffering severe financial losses due to ongoing restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, estimating the Islamic Republic is losing roughly $500 million per day.

In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump claimed Tehran is “starving for cash” and eager to reopen the vital shipping lane. He added that internal pressures are mounting, with reports of military and police forces complaining about unpaid wages.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, and any disruption has immediate ripple effects across global energy markets.

Trump emphasized that despite Iran’s public posture, its leadership is seeking a way to restore access to the waterway while maintaining appearances. He suggested that reopening the strait without a broader agreement would undermine ongoing negotiations.

The president also confirmed that the United States will maintain its naval blockade while extending a temporary ceasefire. According to Trump, the decision followed outreach from Pakistani leaders, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who requested additional time for Iran to present a unified proposal.

The current standoff follows coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes launched on February 28 targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure, significantly escalating tensions in the region.

As negotiations remain uncertain, the economic and strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz continues to place intense pressure on all parties involved.
