Iran Vows Retaliation After Israel Kills General

By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News

TEHRAN/JERUSALEM (Worthy News) – The Iranian president has warned that Iran would retaliate against Israel for killing a high-ranking general in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Syria.

In comments obtained Tuesday, Ebrahim Raisi said the Jewish nation would “certainly pay for this crime” after Brig. Gen. Razi Mousavi was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Damascus suburb of Sayida Zeinab.

“Without a doubt, this action is another sign of frustration, helplessness, and incapacity of the usurping Zionist regime in the region,” Raisi added, referring to Israel’s government.

Israeli military spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari declined to comment on the alleged airstrike.

Mousavi was a close associate of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike in 2020, according to sources with knowledge about the situation.

He was reportedly coordinating the military alliance between Iran and Syria and involved in supplying missiles and other arms to Hezbollah, deemed a terrorist organization by Israel.

BROADER WAR

The strike, first reported Monday, came as tensions on Israel’s northern border remain high between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Fears that a broader war could break out have increased amid the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, as Hezbollah has fired rockets into northern Israel.

Additionally, Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have also disrupted shipping through the Red Sea in, another sign of the risks of a widening armed conflict.

While Israeli officials refused to comment on who was behind the killing, they confirmed that the general was dead.

“I am not referring to this or that operation in the Middle East reported by non-Israeli media,” said Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, chief spokesman of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). “The IDF F has a role, of course: to protect and safeguard the security interests of the state of Israel.”

With both Iran and Hezbollah accusing Israel, the Israeli armed forces were put on high alert as they expected the use of rockets or drones launched from Syria and Lebanon at Israel, Worthy News learned.
