India Strikes Pakistan As Nuclear Armed Neighbors Move To War

By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News

ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI (Worthy News) – India says it has attacked sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, killing several people.

Pakistan’s prime minister also confirmed Wednesday that India carried out “cowardly” deadly attacks on at least five locations in Pakistan-administered territory, adding to concern about an all-out war between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

Shehbaz Sharif warned that Pakistan has “every right to respond forcefully to this act of war imposed by India, and a forceful response is being given.”

He added that the “entire nation” stands with Pakistan’s armed forces on “how to deal with the enemy.”

His comments came after Pakistan’s military said the death toll from Indian strikes on Pakistan has risen to nine civilians, including two children.

Two further people were reported missing, with 35 injured in some 24 strikes on up to six locations, the military said.

Residents in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-administered Kashmir said they were jolted awake by loud explosions. Footage obtained by Worthy News also showed a massive fire after a fighter jet appeared near a crowd.

RELATIONS DECLINING

Relations between India and Pakistan have declined sharply as a militant attack on tourists in Kashmir last month killed numerous people.

Indian-administered Kashmir has seen a decades-long insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives. Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir in its entirety.

With tensions rising and fears of attacks could escalate into a regional nuclear-armed conflict, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that he is monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely.

Separately, the Indian embassy in the United States said India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval had spoken to Rubio “and briefed him on the actions taken.”

Earlier, U.S. President Donald J. Trump told reporters that India’s strikes were “a shame”. “I just hope it ends very quickly,” Trump added while speaking at the White House in Washington, D.C.

Rubio echoed the U.S. president’s sentiments, saying, “This hopefully ends quickly.” He also stressed in comments on social media that he would continue to engage with both the Indian and Pakistani leadership “towards a peaceful resolution.”
